Lasagna, lively bidding and plenty of surprises will come together Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Rotary Club of Port Orford holds its annual Dinner & Auction at Scuttlebutts, 557 9th Street in Port Orford.
The evening gets underway at 5 p.m., when the silent auction opens and guests can begin browsing an assortment of items donated by local residents, artists and businesses. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., featuring a choice of meat or vegetarian lasagna, deluxe green salad, garlic bread and tiramisu or strawberry cake. A beer and wine bar will also be available for guests 21 and older. A big thank you to Katie King of Tasty Kate’s for donating the wine for this event, and Valley Flora Farm for their donation of Produce!
The silent auction continues until 7 p.m., when the action shifts to a half-hour live auction. With everything from original artwork and locally handcrafted pieces to practical items and services on the auction block, there should be something to catch just about everyone’s eye.
Among this year’s offerings is a locally handcrafted Native American woven basket made from Eastern Oregon lodgepole pine; an original pastel artwork by local artist Jan Mucklestone, valued at $550; and 10 yards of screened gravel from Marsh Excavation, valued at $450. And those are only a few of the items waiting for bidders.
Beyond the friendly competition of the auction, the evening raises money that stays at work in the community. Proceeds support Port Orford Rotary projects including scholarships, literacy efforts, food insecurity initiatives and other local service programs.

For more than 70 years, the Rotary Club of Port Orford has been part of the community, putting Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” into action. The Oct. 10 dinner and auction offers a chance to support that work — with a plate of lasagna, a little friendly bidding and, perhaps, a winning auction treasure to take home.
